Steam car BS-8348 in action at the transport enthusiast display at Jurby, Isle of Man, 22 July 2007. Further information about this type of car can be found at tinyurl.com from where I found that: "The fuel consumption was as follows: 3 miles to a gallon of water (16 gallons could be carried). 10 miles to a gallon of paraffin (9 gallons could be carried)." So it was not designed for going long distances! There is another operational car of this design on display in the Black Country Museum, Dudley.
